France is the rare kitesurfing country half of Europe can simply drive to, and it plays every register: Leucate-La Franqui, where the tramontane claims 300-plus days and the Mondial du Vent runs every April; Gruissan, the stilt-chalet village of the Défi Kite; Penthièvre on Brittany's Quiberon isthmus, hotels thirty metres from the sand; and L'Almanarre in Hyères, the Riviera's 250-day wind beach. The French exception applies everywhere: campings, chalets and small hotels literally ON the launch, FFVL schools, and summer zoning rules we state plainly rather than hide.
